THE LOCH NESS MONSTER LIVES!

Movie: The Water Horse (Legend of the Deep)
Jan's Rating: 9
Time: 105 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: My grandson and I LOVED this movie! It was a sweet and interesting story, funny, and exciting. What more could you ask for? A little boy finds a large egg, breaks it open and a baby Water Horse (Loch Ness Monster) is inside. He's so ugly he's cute as a baby, then he grows up but still loves the boy and protects him from harm. I honestly didn't think I would like this movie and it turned out to be one of my favorites. My advice is....don't miss it!

CHIPMONKS ARE ADORABLE!

Movie: Alvin and the Chipmunks
Jan's Rating: 7
Time: 92 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: I took my 9-year old grandson to see this one and we both enjoyed it. The chipmunks are so cute you want to take them home. Jason Lee plays "Dave" who discovers the chipmunks and learns that they can sing. He gives them a home and they practice a song he can take to his long-time friend David Cross (Ian) to have recorded. Dave loves the chipmunks but though Ian is nice to them at first, he only sees them as a way to make money for himself. There of course is a happy ending and the chipmunks even help Dave get back his lost love.

BE THANKFUL FOR THE HUSBAND YOU HAVE!

Movie: Mr. Brooks
Jan's Rating: 8
Time: ~2 hrs.

Jan's Opinion: Since I didn't get a chance to see this movie when it was playing at the theaters, I rented it last night. Kevin Costner plays a successful husband and father who is addicted to murdering people on the side. It is scary to think that a loving successful person can have such a dark side. His evil conscience is played by William Hurt who won't let him stop killing people. Still not sure if I liked the ending???

A FAIRY TALE FOR ADULTS

Movie: August Rush
Jan's Rating: 5
Time: 113 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: OK, where do I start? I liked the story line of this movie but not the way it was told. I don't know about you, but I don't like movies that switch back and forth from the present to the past, over and over again, too confusing. I also like happy endings but this wasn't realistic, too much like a fairy tale. The story starts out with Keri Russell who is an accomplished musician having a one-night affair with Jonathan Ries Meyers, falls in love, wants to be with him but her father won't allow it. She ends up pregnant, has the baby, her father tells her the baby died so for the next 12 years her heart aches for her baby boy. On her father's death bed, he tells her the boy did not die, thus starts her search for her son. As I said earlier, I liked the story line but I would have told it differently.

DON'T GET STUNG BY THIS BEE

Movie: Bee Movie
Jan's Rating: 5
Time: 90 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: It was a cute movie for little kids. My 9 year-old grandson liked it but said it wasn't the best movie he's ever seen. Personally, I had trouble staying awake, a little too boring for me.

You Choose the Ending

Movie: Michael Clayton
Jan's Rating: 7
Time: 119 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: This movie is about killers who stalk a burned out corporate lawyer (George Clooney) who is in the middle of a billion-dollar lawsuit including a high-powered New York law firm. I like movies that have an ending and this one left you with questions in your mind. I thought it was a good movie and the acting was very good, but found it hard to follow. On the other hand, my husband's take on the movie is that the storyline has power but it has been done before in other movies. He said it kept his attention for the full two hours. The only thing that kept my attention for the two hours was watching George Clooney! He's hot! We both think George Clooney will minimally be up for an Oscar as best actor - not sure about the movie.

Can you really trust the police?

Movie: Gone Baby Gone
Jan's Rating: 8
Time: 2 hours

Jan's Opinion: Casey Affleck and Ed Harris do a phenominal acting job in this film about a little girl who goes missing from her dysfunctional family. It gets confusing toward the middle but hang in there because it all makes sense in the end. The ending can be very controversial. The friend who went with me to see the movie thought the ending was a good one; I thought it should have ended another way, which you will understand when you see the movie. My only complaint with this movie is that the "F" word is used way too often. I don't mind hearing it used when it makes a point but they really over-used the word in this movie.

SHOOTER

Jan's Rating: 9
Time: 125 Minutes

Jan's Opinion:

If you love movies about the FBI and CIA, you'll love this one. Mark Wahlberg plays an ex-Marine scout sniper who is asked to return to service to stop an assassination attempt on the President. However, he is doublecrossed by Danny Glover and accused of trying to kill the President. You can see where this story is going so I'll let you watch it to find out how it ends.

You'll Love This Vigilante!

Movie: The Brave One
Jan's Rating: 10
Time: 116 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: My husband and I LOVED this movie! Jodi Foster should receive an Oscar for her role as Erica Bain. She plays a woman who recovers from a vicious attack by a street gang which left her boyfriend dead. She goes from being freightened to death to deciding to buy a gun and get revenge on the bad guys. Clint Eastwood (Make My Day) would be proud to have her on his team!

The Bourne Action Continues...

Movie: The Bourne Ultimatum
Jan's Rating: 9
Time: 110 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: The action goes on with outstanding intrigue as Jason tries to find his identity. If you liked the first two Bourne movies, you'll love this one. My husband and I think the ending leaves an opening for a No. 4 Bourne movie. We hope so!

If You Like Dogs, you'll like Underdog

Movie: Underdog
Jan's Rating: 5
Time: 84 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: Because of the bad reviews I had read, I went to this movie expecting to sleep through it, and because of my low expectations, I ended up enjoying the movie. OK, it's not an Oscar winner, but it's a cute movie, made me laugh, and at the end, wanted to adopt this sweet dog, so give it a chance.

A Camp Your Kids Will Love!

Movie: Daddy Day Camp
Jan's Rating: 5
Time: 1 hr. 33 mins.

Jan's Opinion: This is a cute movie for kids (my 9-yr. old grandson loved it) but adults might tend to yawn now and then. Cuba Gooding, Jr. starts his own summer camp for kids but not without many problems. A successful camp nearby "plays dirty" and tries to run him out of business, but in the end, justice prevails and the good guys win.

Catherine & Abigail Compliment Each Other

Movie: No Reservations
Jan's Rating: 7
Time: 101 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: Enjoyed this movie, a heart-warming story about a woman who has given up on men and made cooking her love and obsession, then she inherits her niece to raise and knows nothing about children. However, she learns fast, thanks to the help of her sexy assistant chef. Any movie with a good ending like this one is worth seeing.

You'll be Dancing in the Aisles!

Movie: Hairspray
Jan's Rating: 10
Time: 107 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: This is such a feel-good movie you'll be dancing on your way out of the theater. John Travolta is hilarious as a woman, but he sure can make his fat woman role dance! Michelle Pfeiffer looks anorexic and has the only nasty role in the movie, but then the gal who plays her daughter isn't very nice either. I was surprised how well Michelle can sing. Queen Latifah was excellent as always. This movie takes place in the early 60's when segregation was still very prevalant, and to show you how far we have become, my 9-year old grandson asked me "what is a negro?", when the word was mentioned in the movie. He enjoyed the movie almost as much as I did and we both highly recommend it!

Evening Can Be A Wonderful Time Of Day

Movie: Evening
Jan's Rating: 9
Time: 117 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: What a wonderful chic flick, though some of you tender hearts might need a few tissues. Be prepared to move from present day to the past during the movie and enjoy the relationships between Mother and Daughters, between sisters and between friends. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

A Very Mighty Ending

Movie: Evan Almighty
Jan's Rating: 5
Time: 88 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: Cute movie. My 9-year old grandson loved it. I especially loved the exciting ending.

My Kind of Waitress

Movie: Waitress
Jan's Rating: 9
Time: 104 Minutes

Jan's Opinion: Great chic flick! You will fall in love with Keri Russell's character and applaud her in the end.

Rats Aren't So Bad After All

Movie: Ratatouille
Jan's Rating: 8
Time: 110 minutes

Jan's Opinion: I have to be honest, I am not a fan of cartoon movies, except for Shrek, whom I adore. If you like cartoon movies, this is a cute one, and you might even decides that rats aren't so bad after all. Fast paced, clever cinematography, kept my 9-year old grandson entertained for almost 2 hours, and for that, I was thankful.

Angelina At Her Best!

Movie: A Mighty Heart
Jan's Rating: 6
Time: 108 minutes

Jan's Opinion: Angelina Jolie should win an academy award for her performance in A Mighty Heart as the wife of Daniel Pearl. However, I didn't care much for the movie. Most of it took place in the dark (night time) and a lot of the conversations were in the Iraqi language with subtitles. Others might like it but it was not my kind of movie.

Bruce Willis- still the bee's knees in Die Hard

Movie: Live Free or Die Hard
Jan's Rating: 10
Time: 2 hrs. 10 mins.

Jan's Opinion: Excellent! If you liked the previous Die Hard movies, you will LOVE this one! It is exciting from beginning to end, to the point where you can't go to the restroom or you will miss something important. Definitely not reality, but lots of fun.
